HIV drug causes liver damage admits FDA

This article is about the HIV drug videx that was sold generically as didanosine and it could cause fatal liver problems. The agency has received atleast 42adverse events that links to Videx which has been delayed to the newer version which is Videx EC to a rare liver disorder. In four of the cases patients have died from liver failure and sever bleeding. There were only three patiend that had actually recovered from this. The FDA had stated that the benefits of the HIV patients still outweighs the risks and that the patients have to be monitored real closely. The Videx has approved since 1991 and then the delayed version was approved in 2000 and the drug is a type of antiretroviral drug that is known as nucleoside analogue that slows down the prolferation of HIV.
My opinion of this article is that it tells you all of the main points about the HIV drug that causes liver damage. That is why you should keep your body straight and dont damage it.You only get one liver so you have to try not to damage it.So when you go to the doctors that is what they check when go and get a physical .So i advise people who are out there screwing around to read this article.

Diabetes Numbers Expected to Triple by 2050
According to the CDC, the diabetes statistics are expected to increase if we don't change something soon. Currently, 1 in every 10 Americans have diabetes. In the year 2050, if obesity trends don't change, it is expected that 1 in every 3 Americans will have diabetes. Diabetes can cause blindness, lower limb amputations, heart attacks, stroke, dementia and cancer. To manage type 2 diabetes, it is necessary to have a healthy diet, exercise, and medication (oral pills or insulin shots).

1 in 10 Americans being affected by diabetes is a scary thought, but the thought of 1 in 3 Americans having diabetes in approximately 40 years is nearly terrifying. Considering the side effects that come along with diabetes, the disease seems terrible. In 40 years, I will most likely have children, and I would not want my children to have to deal with diabetes. It's a very scary disease that we should be rid of. I think public awareness about diabetes should be raised in order to deal with and change this problem.

The article "Shoes may have changed how we run" is a very interesting article. In the article it explains scientist have reviewed footage in slow motion of bare foot runners and runners with tennis shoes. It is said that our feet land differently barefoot than we do while wearing shoes. Scientist have found out that barefoot runners are at lower risk at getting an injury while running compared to barefoot runners. Maybe tennis shoes aren't so good after all!
In my opinion this article was very interesting. Who would have thought of video taping runners with and without shoes and studying it! This article was full of information about this experiment and it just comes to show that there are some down falls to somethings. It really makes me wonder what else out there can be a good and a bad thing for us also.

Men better than women at sweating during exercise - study.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-11492897

Researchers in Japan have discovered that the saying, "Men sweat, Women glow," is in fact, true. It may sound odd, but tests have shown that men are more prone to be efficient at sweating during laboring activities including exercises. This could be bad news for women. Sweating is the bodies' natural defence to heat. If you don't sweat as much, then you are more likely to be affected by heat in negative ways. So this means that women are more susceptible than men to getting heat stroke. This also means that women have less bodily fluid than men.

I have never heard of this before i read this article. I think it explains a lot. When you see a male athlete performing you often see their forehead covered in a thick sheen of sweat. Whenever I've seen women althletes, I have never seen them sweat as much, unless they are performing a strenuous sport. This may give researchers and scientists a basis to study off of so they might find ways to prevent women from getting as hot as they do faster.

A nurse was on facebook and was flipping through photos of someone that she knows, and noticed that the womans daughter had a white reflection, the mom thought the little girl had pink eye but instead it was much worse. So the nurse called the woman and she took her to the doctor and found that the little girl had two tumors on her left eyea and that she had lost all eyesight in that eye. She was diagnosed with retinoblastoma. If the area would have spread it could've been fatal but now she will have to be monitored with laser treatments for the rest of her life.

Alzheimer's Disease

This article is about Alzheimer's which is known for a neurodegenerative disease that is mostly common in people over the age of 65 years old. There is about 24 million people worldwide that has dementia .Some clinical signs of the Alzheimer's disease is that it is a progressive cognitive deterioration and it is also combined with the activities of daily living .The symptoms are memory loss which is amnesia , minor forgetness which is a steadily denser with the progress and mostly with older memories. They also have plaques which misfolds peptides and is also called amyloid beta which is formed in the brain a few years before you get Alzheimer's.There are some medications that can help reduce the symptoms of this disease. Also there are four genes which contains mutation or variants that is increased the risk of AD which is 30% .

My opinion of this article is that it tells you about how you might get when you get older and might caint remember things. That is why you should be thankful you are in your right mind now. When you get old and caint hardly remember anything that is nothing to play with because i have been around some people who has Alzheimer's.But some people put there parents or loved ones in a nursing home because they have Alzheimer's and they dont want to deal with them and that isnt right how some people treat there loved ones like that and they just stick them in a nursing home and dont go back and see them or nothing.

The 3D is the new fronter for medicine and it will chang how doctors will treat illnesses. The physicians of the cornell medical college in new york city are the inventers for the 3d medicine. The technology is called CAVE and what it does is 3d reality room where researchers can voyage the structure of cells and parts of the body. The cells can be seen in a true 3d state.Physicians say using CAVE will help them better understand how to study and treat diseases.

I think this envention is a great idea beacaues it will help docters see the places wher cells are.The CAVE techology will help docters better understand how to treat dieseases. Doctors will now see the body better and handle it better. It will help more lives of people. The new technology will help treatments be less dangers.I think they should make more of this machines beacues you can see the body parts as seeing live.

United States continues to lack behind other nations when it comes to life expectancy obesity, smoking, traffic fatalities, and homicide are not to blame. Peter Muennig and Sherry Glied at Columbia University, looked at health spending; behavioral risk factors obesity and smoking. Researchers discovered that other countries have experienced greater gains in the United States. The survival rates for men and women ages 45 and 65 in the US have fallen to the other 12 countries over the past 30 years. U.S. ranking for 15-year life expectancy for 45-year-old men declined, from 3rd in 1975 to 12th in 2005, according to studies.

Its shocking that the U.S is behind in these things . Obesity & smoking rates are higher in the U.S than any other country. The U.S. health care system has been failing Americans for years. It is unacceptable that the U.S. obtains so much less than should be expected from its unusually high spending on health care relative to other countries.

In the article "Epilepsy marked by neural 'hub' network" is a very interesting article. In the article it explains that an increase in the number of neurons,(hubs), can lead to seizures. Having these seizures are sometimes the cause of the Epilepsy disease. Researchers from UC Irvine researched that these "hubs" are formed in the hippocampus of the brain during the transition from a healthy brain, to an epileptic one. The increase in the number of these hubs circulate and amplify signals and makes the brain overwhelmed. This is what causes seizures.
In my opinion this article is very interesting. It is full of information and this can be a huge problem in our society. With todays technology, our scientists can research our daily life's diseases such as Epilepsy. Epilepsy is an awful disease and with these hubs being active in our brain, we need a way to stop them. That is what the hard part is.

There are 7 Foods That Sabotage Your Diet. When you try to eat a over sized snack you can gain weight. If yyou find ways just to save 100 calories a day you could loose 10 pounds in a year. With the help of some nutrition experts they put together 7 food that can attac your diet. The first one is pre-measured snaks. you find youe self eating many packs, making the calories add up.The seccond one is diet treats, fat free and sugar free snacks dont mean that there is no calories. number three is, liquid calories. a couple cup of capichino add up to about 150 calories of sweetener alone. four, super-snacks. you could eat ever few hours but small portions, but you could easly over eat. number five is rich proteins, just a 3 ounce sirloin has 225 calories. six is fat free salad dressing. producers replace the fat with sugar in non fatt items.and finaly number seven is "baked" chips, they are low in fat but high in calories and low in neutrients.

I have all ways told my self that if i get fat that i would not go on any crazy diet. what i would simply do is just have my meals but i would cut my portions down way low. and insted of have a snack full of calories i would have fruit or a salad with regular dressing. but i would limit the amout of dressing that i had on my salad.

Human Body Parts Found in Tiger Shark's Stomach

According to The Press Assositation and The Boston Herald, last weekend, human body parts including arms, legs, and a full torso was found inside the stomach of a tiger shark that was caught by sport fishermen. There's no telling where the shark would have taken his victim, because Tiger sharks can swim for very long distances at a time. Investigations are being conducted in the Bahamas, and Assistant Police Commissioner Glenn Miller says that there are two current missing persons reports in the area. However, they aren't ruling out any possiblities. It's very rare for Tiger sharks to attack humans while they are still alive, but still, the possiblities are endless.

I think this is a tragic story, but I'm left to wonder what actually happened to the man who was eaten by the shark. Since the animals aren't prone to attack people while they are living, that brings up the question of how could he possibly have died otherwise? I thought this was a very interesting article.

A Bellvue man who contracted meningitis during a hockey game in June died Monday night after a series of strokes. Vasculitis is an inflammation of blood vessels that occurs when the body's immune system attacks them by mistake, according to the National Institutes of Health. Bill Jubert was one of three players to develop meningitis after a Fort Collins Adult Hockey League game at the Edora Pool Ice Center, 1801 Riverside Ave. Brian Wormus, 29, died June 14, and Nick Smith, 28, died June 22.

The players should have got their disease checked out earlier. It says that this disease is one of the most deadliest if not treated early. You can get vasculitis on blood vessels in the brain. It took two months for the diagnos and there was possibily a connection with the meningitis. some people seem to recover but most of the time there seems to be symptoms such as numerous strokes. Players can now get vaccinated and avoid contact with saliva and mucus.

STDS .

In Forsyth County, the already high cases of STD’s are increasing even more, including aids. Recent reports from the NC division of Public Health found that gonorrhea, syphilis and Chlamydia have increased rapidly from January to September in 2009. Much more than it did In January to September in 2007. Forsyth is the only county to increase in all four categories. The health department found this out, when discovering new cases of syphilis in August, which by the way is already increasing at a rapid rate. Syphilis is a bacterial infection spread through sexual contact that can produce rashes or sores in the groin area. The suspect person can only find out if their infected is by taking a blood. Left untreated, the disease can cause damage to the heart and central nervous system. All the STD’s that are increasing in the population are curable accept AIDS. Local and state health officials began an outreach effort in various communities trying to slow down the rate and suggested the population to get tested for any type of STD’s and many agreed. That was on August 29, 2009 and since then the rate is still increasing, so officials don’t know what else to do next.
I personally think the officials should try harder to reach out to the community to help slow down this deadly rate. Sending speakers to schools to speak about STD’s, AIDS and protected sex is a way to help also, informing people that STD’s can be very deadly and need to take responsibly as a sexually active person to protect themselves and others. Also informing people about the increasing rate would get a lot of people’s attention. No I think this will fully stop the transmission of AIDS and STD’s but I honestly do think it will help.

Breat Cancer
This article is about the breast cancer and it is an abnormal cell that grows out of control in your breast. They can also invade the tissues in your body and form a mass of malignant tumors.Breat cancer can be cured and it is not always necessary to get it removed. Some factors that you can not change is being a woman , getting older , and gene changes. The symptoms are a change in the way the breast feels , and a painless lump or thickening in the breast or underarm , the skin in the breast may dimple or look like and orange peel and there also be a change in the size. When you have your regular physical exam your doctor checks your breast just to make sure you dont have any lumps or changes in your breast. You can get surgery to remove the cancer from the breast and you will need several weeks of radiation after the surgery.Breast cancer can be prevented by eating healthy and make exercising your new routine and also if you drink alcohol you need to limit the amount you drink.
My opinion of this article is that it is telling you some good facts that your should already know. That is why you need to always go and get a mammagram to be on the safe side. You should eat healthier and keep your body right.Breast cancer is a very bad thingand you can get real sick from it.But that is why i always go to the doctors and let them check me out.

This article talks about how there has been studies to show that more adults survive cardiac arrest when someone gives them continuous chest compressions, then by giving them mouth to mouth. When someone is going to give two breaths of mouth to mouth, it usually takes 16 seconds which is long enough for the organs to start starving for oxygen. Using hands on, your hands are you heart, and as soon as you stop using your hands your heart stops supplying the blood to your brain. Giving mouth to mouth there are so many questions that someone is asking themselves they don't think about how long they are breathing, so the breaths that they could be supplying could just be useless.

My opinion on this article, is that if studies do show that hands only works better for a human, then that is what should be use. You usually are caught off guard so anyone wants to take the easy way out. Also no one knows how someone Else's body is going to react, so if the breaths you are giving them are not strong enough, then when you helping their heart pump you have a better chance at helping save someone life.

New Therapy Found for Lung and Skin Cancer, Based on Suicide Gene E

Scientists at University of Granada developed a new therapy for the treatment of skin and lung cancer. This involves use of a suicide coliphage-gene that induces death to cells transfected with it. Studies have shown that the technique is not only effective in vitro , but also in vivo through the use of experimental animals in which tumours were induced.

I think its good that there is a new therapy that has been found to cure theses cancers. This is better because its something different to try out

Gender bending chemicals in plastics 'raises risk of prostate cancer'

Scientists have recently discovered that a certian chemical found in the plastic of babies' bottles could be showing the risk of obtaining prostate cancer, by testing on newborn rats. When the reserchers fed the baby rodents bisphenol A, a basic building block used in making plastic, they showed no signs of cancerous tumors or cells as they aged. They have found that these tests are directly relevant to that of a babies' health.

I believe that these tests are very important towards the welfare of babies' health. Scientist should always test things that are an imediete risk to a human's health, even if it has not been proved to be harmful.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, wemon loose there hair or start have "thining" to there hair by the age of 40. People think that the reason for thinning hair is because of shampooing to much and wearing hats quite often. The most positive way to keep hair healthy and most attractive is keeping your hands in it as much as possibe. the biggest cause of hair loss is clogs and blockages of the hair folical on the scalp and under the scalp.
opinon:
My opinion is that wemon should not worrie about loosing their hair. people should just let nature take its corse. All wemon are beautiful just the way they are. tyra banks has a bio campaign. bio stands for beautiful inside out. If everyone would realize their natural beauty tehn people would not have to worrie about natural things like hair thinning.

The article "Antioxidants aren't always good for you and can impair muscle function, study shows" is a article that our society really needs to pay attention to. In the article it explains that antioxidants can impair skeletal muscle function. Antioxidants is know for their benefits against fighting diseases. But sometimes antioxidants can slow down oxygen delivery during physical movement so the antioxidant drug kinda back fires. Scientist are still studying the affects of antioxidants but they are still one of our worlds best drugs!
In my opinion this article was pretty interesting to read. It shows that antioxidants can do miracles for us, but can also harm us. This drug is kind of a bitter sweet kind of thing because it can work in one region of our body, and hurt another part. Antioxidants are used to fight and prevent diseases from occuring and some people need them in their every day lives. I hope our scientist can prevent this drug from back firing and keep in our daily lives.

Weight lifting muscles

This article is talking about when you lift weights you are lifting all of the different muscles in your body. You are lifting the muscles such as the Trapezius, Rhomboideus minor and major, Levator scapulae, Serratus anterior, Pectoralis major and minor, Teres major and minor, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, and Subscapularis. These muscle are the main and important muscles in your body. The Trapezius looks like a quadrilateral and raises the shoulder blade or depresses it and raises the collar bone. Also the Rhomboideus is a diamond shaped muscles between the two shoulder blades.Your Terete muscle is a long and narrow muscle that starts from the scapula and is inserted onto the humeras.
My opinion of this article is that you need to know what muscles you are using when you are lifting weights. If you dont know which muscles you are using that is bad because you dont know what you are trying to build up in your body.It is best for you to find out which muscles you are using by reading up on the muscles in your body. But over all this article was good because now i know about these types of muscles in your body.So if you need to know anything about the muscles you are using in your body while you are lifting weights go to this article.

AIDS.

Every day, 7,500 people worldwide are newly infected with HIV; 2 million died of AIDS in 2007, the U.N. agency UNAIDS estimates. Announced on Sept. 24, 2009, that there is now a vaccine that help prevents the HIV/AIDS infection. Many scientists before thought this would never be possible due to the many unsuccessful tries before. "Today marks an historic milestone," said Mitchell Warren, executive director of the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition, an international group that has worked toward developing a vaccine.
The Thailand Ministry of public health began this study. They used strains of HIV that were commonly found there. What worries them is whether this vaccination will work with other HIV viruses found in the US, Africa, and else where the deadly disease is found. When studying the vaccination, they took the “prime-boost” approach, meaning the first one primes the immune system to attack HIV and the second one strengthens the response. The vaccination includes ALVAC from Sanofi Pasteur, and AIDSVAX originally developed by VaxGen Inc. ALVAC includes canary pox, a bird virus altered so it’s not to harm humans. AIDSVAX contains a genetically engineered version of a protein on HIV's surface. The vaccines are not made from whole virus — dead or alive — and cannot cause HIV. What scientist also wonders is how long this vaccine will last. Whether one may just have to get one shot or will booster shots be needed after the first shot is needed. This study was performed in Thailand because U.S. Army scientists did pivotal research in that country when the AIDS epidemic emerged there, isolating virus strains and providing genetic information on them to vaccine makers. The Thai government also strongly supported the idea of doing the study

I feel that it is very essential that the students are informed about the human body before conducting a live experiment. Research on cadavores can help with further medical research in the future.
